Suggestion for new feature

Hi
Thanks for a great software, very intuitive and easy to use.
I do however have an suggestion for a new feature.

We have (as many others) the jump course interleaved with the slalom course. this means that many buoys are shared between the courses, also in the jump video element, many data points are shares from the jump course or even within the video element (Video-B = 10m).
I would like to suggest to add a link feature, allowing data in a field to be copied from another field, in the same element or from another element. In this way I would only have to put in a measurement once. Especially in the Jump Video many lines are shared, it will also reduce the risk of errors if the link could be setup once.

i.e.
19ST = B6
VideoB = 10m
.....

Best regards

Casper Dietrich

Hi,

You are suggesting to link two buoys from different elements ?
(does it make sense to link 2 buoys from the same element ?)

Instead of typing 123.45, you would input, as in Excel, "Slalom Course 1!B6", for example ?
(or, better, link it by clicking on the element, then on buoy to link...)

Well, it is a good idea... but not so easy to implement...
And, as you will have to link the buoy manually, I am not sure you will save time,
as compared to entering the distance/angle a second time.
The only advantage, is to avoid typo errors, as far as I reckon...
There is already the possibility to copy/paste more cells (say, distance + angle) into another element...
which is the same amount of work as to create link for the user...

Hi Emamnuel
Linking 2 buoys in the same element does only make sense in the Jump Video, here We use the 10,20,....60m buoys as B,D,.... and verification.

You are right that entering the links will take more time than copying the data, but
I normally reuse the same homologation file , and overwrite the previous values - this also helps me to spot if the data i am entering is in the right location - buoys seldom move very far, so old and new values should be close - or I am entering in the wrong line.
Dooing this the links will be very helpful.

I envisioned that you could right click on a line, get a dialog, point to the source cell, and then the target cell will be read only. Data can be reloaded on page load.

Casper

Hi Casper,

Well, the amount of work to implement that is quite high.
I will see if I can do that, but don't expect it this year... and maybe never !

What could be simpler, would be to add a comment column which give you opportunity to write a comment for every buoy.
You could indicate there that is the same buoy as, say, jump buoy 19et for example...
or that this buoy need to be moved... or anything else...

It is still not anything automatic as you would like, but would help a little...

Hi Emmanuel
I was not expecting an update next week :-)

A comment field would be nice.

But from a note stating '=[Classic Slalom Couse]B10' and a global 'Update' button is not far - the database is in a generic windows format. I agree that making right click menus and automated updates does require some programming.

I will leave the suggestion with you - this is not a strong requirement.

Thanks
Casper
